Be aware, if you own a TdV6 Discovery 3 or Range Rover Sport. It is required to have the timing belt changed very 100,000Km.

There is 2 belts, the Fuel injection belt at the rear of the engine and the main belt at the front of the engine.  The rear belt is not as important as the front belt. If the rear belt snaps the engine will stop. However if the front belt brakes "BANG" the engine is destroyed.

At LRA when we do the timing belts on a TdV6, we take all precautions. The TdV6 also has a problem where the timing belt tensioner bolts to the oil pump housing. If not done correctly the boss can snap off causing the belt to jump the front timing belt teeth. If this happens it is all over and expensive repairs will follow.

We fix this issue by replacing the oil pump at the same time an the belt due to the up rated oil pump timing belt tensioner boss. Unfortunately this increases the cost of the jod by around $600.00. So we strongly recommend when it is time to replace your timing belt, make sure they are competent and are also replacing the oil pump, otherwise make sure they back up their workmanship and warranty that repair.
