Reconditioned Parts

Reconditioned options are much better than 2nd hand at very reasonable prices.

Les Richmond Automotive is dedicated to servicing our customers with products new or 2nd hand at the best prices and quality available. Sometimes new items are extremely expensive and 2nd hand items are not much better or the genuine item needs to be improved for Australian conditions. If possible LR Automotive will supply a fully reconditioned item on a change over basis. All items reconditioned by us are all covered by warranty and are to the highest standard possible.

Steering Boxes.

The power steering boxes in Land Rovers are a great designed unit. They are one of few that the driver has actual feeling through the steering wheel of what the front wheels are doing and the traction available.

Les Richmond Automotive has found many solutions to correct all problems through repairing the sector and worm shafts to machining the main housing to retain a superior oil seals.

Every steering box reconditioned has had the shafts fully checked for hardening loss and other damage, the main housing machined to house better oil seals, line bored and reamed the 3 bronze bushes, cleaned, reassembled and pressure tested. If the box passes all of the above it is then ready to be fitted. All our steering boxes are covered by an 18month warranty.

Load Levellers.

In the rear of classic Range Rover’s and early Land Rover County’s a load leveler is used as an auxiliary rear load-carrying device. They are an ingenious item. When weight is added to the rear cargo area the rear of the vehicle drops in height. When the vehicle is driven the load leveler does as the name suggests and raises the rear of the vehicle.

The springing of the vehicle has to be set up to carry the majority of the weight but the load leveler will help when required. This allows the rear springing to be softer giving greater comfort for general on-road use.

Diesel Pumps.

An injection pump to suit mechanically driven diesel engines need to be recalibrated every 150,000 to 200,000 kilometers. An injection found on 200 and 300 Tdi Discovery’s and Defender’s require checking / reconditioning to make sure the injector pump is delivering the correct amount of diesel at the correct time depending on the revs and load the engine is experiencing. An unchecked or incorrectly reconditioned or incorrectly fitted injector pump can change the way your diesel runs causing misfiring, pinging, poor fuel economy, lack of power or worse engine damage.

Problems in diesels are not as easy to find as petrol engines. Some problems are visible or audible but others cannot be found without an off the vehicle check. It is advised when the injection pump is recalibrated to check the injectors as well as they also affect the engine performance and economy. Make sure your mechanic tuning your vehicle is knowledgeable with the fuel system on your vehicle. Nothing worse then fitting parts to the vehicle and not finding the problem, this is expensive and unproductive.

Distributor Vacuum advances.

The vacuum advance unit is fitted to the side of the distributor. It controls one side of the advancing stage of the distributor. When the vacuum advance fails the distributor can no longer advance the engine timing under cruise or light load conditions. This will affect performance and economy.

The genuine replacement vacuum advances are extremely expensive compared with many vehicles so LR Automotive now has reconditioned vacuum advances on a changeover basis for a fraction of the cost. In actual fact they are so well reconditioned you will not be able to tell the difference between a new one or a reco’d one..

Air Flow Metres.

Airflow or air mass meters are a precise component of most fuel injection systems. These units measure the air used to send signals to the engine management system to deliver the required amount of fuel. If these units do not calibrate correctly and deliver incorrect information the engine will not get the correct air fuel ratio through the rev range causing poor fuel economy, lack of power or worse engine damage.

Problems associated with the air flow meters are normally found when the vehicle is being tuned. Make sure the mechanic tuning your vehicle is knowledgeable with the injection system as other problems can simulate air flow meter problems. Nothing worse then fitting parts to the vehicle and not finding the problem, this is expensive and unproductive.

Carbies.

A carburetor is a mechanical fuel delivery unit. It needs to be setup correctly to deliver the correct amount of fuel depending on the revs and load the engine is experiencing. Carbies need to be professionally reconditioned and professionally setup to the engine. An incorrectly reconditioned or fitted carburetor correctly and deliver an incorrect air fuel ratio may cause poor fuel economy, lack of power or worse engine damage.

Problems associated with the carburetors are normally found when the vehicle is being tuned. Make sure the mechanic tuning your vehicle is knowledgeable with the fuel system on your vehicle as some other problems can simulate carbie problems. Nothing worse then fitting parts to the vehicle and not finding the problem, this is expensive and unproductive.

Engine Management.

Engine Management Units (ECU) is a precise component electronic computer measuring all sensory signals to deliver the required amount of fuel. If these units do not calibrate correctly and deliver incorrect information the engine will not get the correct air fuel ratio through the rev range causing poor fuel economy, lack of power or worse engine damage.

Problems associated with the ECU’s are normally found when the vehicle is being tuned. Make sure the mechanic tuning your vehicle is knowledgeable with the injection system as other problems can simulate air flow meter problems. Nothing worse then fitting parts to the vehicle and not finding the problem, this is expensive and unproductive.

All ECU’s reconditioned have been fully checked and repaired back to factory specifications. Reconditioned ECU’s are available from Les Richmond Automotive at a fraction of the cost of a new replacement item.

For modified vehicles or vehicles looking for more horsepower we can recondition your ECU using program changes to assist in the performance. These are available for most petrol and diesel Discovery’s and Range Rover’s.
